Propane

What is it? Propane is a hydrocarbon (C3H8) and is sometimes referred to as liquefied petroleum gas, LP-gas, or LPG. Propane is produced from both natural gas processing and crude oil refining, in roughly equal amounts from each source. Most propane used in the United States is produced domestically, with only about 15 percent imported from overseas. It is nontoxic, colorless, and virtually odorless. As with natural gas, an identifying odor is added so the gas can be readily detected. Gas detectors are recommended because not everyone call smell the odor. Propane can cause freeze burn or frostbite if it comes in contact with exposed skin. All service of propane equipment should be performed only by qualified personnel.

Lets talk Safety! Advanced Fuel Services makes Propane safety our #1 priority. Before a delivery of propane is made, we inspect and leak check the entire gas system. This leak check will ensure the exterior service line and interior piping is safe and ready for service. We also do a visual inspection of the interior piping to ensure connections are correct and any lines or valves are capped. As a AFS customer, we also require you to contact our office prior to any changes that are going to take place with your gas service. This will allow us time to schedule a “new” leak check and visual inspection to ensure your gas supply is safe for you and your family.

Propane is so unique. As a single energy source, Propane does so many things. Its most common application is home heat. It can be used to heat your water, food and clothes. Many business and farms use Propane for heat, motor fuel, crop drying applications and so much more. We are a proud supplier of such a great product that can do so much for you.

Better Efficiency

Propane gas stoves and fireplaces also heat more evenly and more efficiently than wood-burning ones. They can also heat a larger area, meaning less reliance on primary home heating systems and significant cost savings.

Wood-burning fireplaces can lose up to 90 percent of their heat through the chimney. Fireplace heat also tends to fade just a few feet from the earth.

Cleaner Burning

A Colorado Clean Air Campaign study showed gas logs would burn 40 times longer than wood-burning fireplaces while producing less emissions. The difference is so significant that in some states the use of wood-burning fireplaces is prohibited on days when air quality is poor.

Lower Cost

Propane gas fireplaces can produce twice as much heat as wood-burning ones at about a third of the cost. The U.S. Department of Energy estimates that a gas fireplace costs 30 to 60 percent less per hour to operate than a wood-burning fireplace.

Turning to a more efficient propane furnace, water heater, clothes dryer, range or other propane-powered appliances will save you money, help the environment, and keep you warm.
